I know it sounds crazy but my biggest concern with promising name for longer than a year is that chas vsholem close male member would pass away and I won't be able to name after them. How crazy is that?

Very valid concern. Learned the hard way never promise a name! Also anyone I know that promised to give shimmon had a boy so think about if that is what you want.

I wrote this on another thread, but coming here makes me feel like I came full circle.

I started this thread before lag be'omer, going through IF, and wondering if I should promise a name after R Shimon.

Bh I am now 6 weeks pregnant!! (4 weeks since mikvah, but doc says considered 6 weeks.) I am so grateful bh.

So did I promise to give the name?

I ended up going to bais hachaim on lag beomer to my mothers kever. I davened that in zchus of the heilige reb shimon and my dear mother I should be helped with a healthy child. I didn't promise the name but I definitely was davening in the zchus of R shimon. It was too hard for me to actually promise.

I do hope that if it's a boy I should give the name. And if a girl after my mother a"h.

Bshaa Tova!!!! The doc says 6 weeks because it’s counted from your last period. Your last period was approximately 2 weeks before your last Mikvah.

Wow! Thanks for the update!
May all go smoothly with an uneventful pregnancy and a healthy baby!

I am going through infertility 10+ years. I know that even with treatments it's a miracle to get pregnant..
So please feel free to ignore my question.. was this a natural conception?
Again, to me, it's a miracle either way!

Not natural but bh not ivf. Medicated cycles.

hugs to you! Hope your miracle is right around the corner

I’ve never heard of this either. R’ Shimon is not the one who decides when someone will have a baby. Neither is any other tzadik or gadol one goes to, or whose kever one goes to. It comes from HaShem. We daven to these people (or ask for a Bracha from these people) that they should daven and intercede on our behalf. We don’t ask THEM for a child. This is how I was always taught.

Of course it's all from Hashem! When you daven by any kever you don't ask things from the nifter, you ask Hashem that in the zchus of that person you should be helped.

It's known that many people who promised to name after R Shimon that he intercedes on their behalf to have children. I think there a story of his mother being childless and how he was born... Can't remember it.

I had that. Not with reb Shimon. I promised a name, got pregnant, and within the pregnancy a close relative passed. Ppl thought we'd name after passed relative, but we didn't obviously. We named after who we promised we would, and it was brutally hard!

I had a baby girl bh! I gave a name after my mother.
But the past lag beomer as I held my delicious 3 month old precious bundle I definitly felt a special bond with the day and R shimon. I will always associate her to that day and to my mother a"h.
She was born exactly 9 months after lag beomer.
