Very first word was abba at 10.5 months.
Probably 5 words by a year, and at least 20-30 at 15 months. Now at 19 months I don't think I could count.
However every kid is so different!! I know someone whose toddler just started talking for real at 19 months and thats normal too.

As I understand it, the actual act of talking is less important than the overall socioemotional development and communication/understanding skills.

That was my first kid. I don't remember exactly but it was around 2, maybe past.

My baby is almost 22 months and doesn't really say any double syllables. She says some sounds and did so very late. She does have excellent receptive language skills. She's getting to an age where it is starting to frustrate her that she can't communicate her needs well.

Kids are different. I've had early talkers and late ones. My just turned 2yr old can retell events that happened at daycare that day. My 4 yr old had just 10 words in his vocabulary when he was that age. His overall social emotional interaction were fine, as well as his receptive language but he was super frustrated because he knew exactly what he wanted but couldn't communicate effectively so we did get him speech therapy.
