What are her credentials? Who is her target audience? Why is making statements at all? Who is funding her?
Why are you getting any information, be it about nutrition, vaccines, supplements, makeup/skincare or parenting in this manner. Maybe you need to re-evaluate your sources of information.
And then you are coming here, to an anonymous woman’s frum website to verify information. What are our credentials, unverified information sources, ulterior motives, and biases.
Oh sweetie! |
This is exactly what I was talking about.
The entire "health and wellness" industry is so predatory and it's very sad and scary how people fall for it. It is an INDUSTRY. They are out to make money off of you. These things should be shut down. It's no different than the MLM industry being fined and shut down by the FTC for making illegal claims. These hotlines and nutritionists should also be fined and shut down. I've seen such scary claims being made in the heimish world in particular and I really feel the only reason the FTC and FDA has not caught them is because we won't file a claim on them, and these heimish companies know this, so they get away with it. [Getting off my soapbox now]
OP, how much did you pay for this hotline?

I dont pay.
they have a disclaimer that general info about medical conditions and treatment, info is not advice, must not rely on info as alternative to medical advice from doctor or proffessional healthcare provider,
which I understand if she is telling how to treat exzema or bedwetting I should be careful...and they take no responsibilty and shouldnt disregard doctor.
but I thought I was hearing things when she mentioned butter and wanted to verify if she is really right and I was misinformed on butter all these years.?

If you are not paying, this is also a red flag. No one gives anything away for free. There is something in it for her. Is she selling something? What's in it for her?
I will say it again and again. If you want to verify something, this is not the place for it, and neither are blogs or asking friends or other "nutritionists". You NEED to speak to a Registered Dietitian.

Now that watergirl stepped off her soapbox, I'll climb on to it.
Butter was what made you realize this is a scam?!?!
Okay.
Thank goodness for butter then.
The problem isn't anything you were told about about butter.
The problem is people with no credentials giving advice on subjects they have no credentials to advise on, making money at the expense of innocent people like you.

She is 100% correct.
I’m sorry if it is not what you want to hear.

I was also wondering if this is the same OP (and I said that in my first post), but it's wrong for anyone to read threads here by amothers and then throw out a suggestion. Just like I told OP she would be best off going to a real RD and not listen to randos here, for this too she would be best off going to an RD and letting them make a diagnosis if there is one to be made (if that's even in the scope of what an RD can do, I believe an MD makes an dx and the RD works in tandem with the MD on a treatment plan.
For what it's worth, I am not seeing a pattern in these threads (linked above) of orthorexia, I am seeing a pattern of people reading or hearing things and incorporating it into their cooking and eating. This is not a great way to go and some of these posts are kind of odd, like taking supplements and things, but most of it is no more than what you would find in those heimish shops and hotlines, which I think is the real issue here.

I had similar concerns about the bee-bread thread, and the leben thread.

And the sardine thread, not linked here.
Eta - yes it is, sorry.

Ohh, there are so many. Please don’t forget the Parmesan cheese and cottage cheese one as well.
Honestly, I am an MS, RDN and I can’t deal with fighting the Instagram experts, because for some people, it doesn’t matter what I say, if they heard it on a hotline or Instagram or other dynamic personality, it is now gospel and when I am not jumping on board they are questioning my veracity.

I vividly remember the parmesan cheese thread.

Oh wow. I had read some of those threads but missed most (because I don't eat those foods).
And then I googled orthorexia nervosa.
If even 1/4 of this threads are by the same person, please please get help! For your sake, for your children's sake, for your husband's sake. They need a mother who is healthy not only physically but also emotionally.
Please please get help.

fruit and veg which arent really macros are also important for the
vitamins and minerals. |
Fruit and vegetables are carbohydrates. That is their macronutrient.
The three macronutrients are fat, protein and carbohydrates.

I believe the OP is always the same. They make repeated references to the same things and I recognize their writing each time. I’ve had the same thought that they should get a dietician on board since they seem anxious about the whole thing. Hopefully a dietician can lower their stress.

rather avocado for healthy fat?
my nutritionist claims butter is very healthy ang good for growing kids. its good for teeth too acc to weston price? |
The statement by the nutritionist is ridiculous. They are clearly not trained in science and evidence.
I’m not saying butter is bad, I eat it myself and often, feeling it is a high quality and healthy fat.
But saying that they think children grow tall who eat butter is patently ridiculous.
