Hi,
My laundry is coming out of the machine with small black marks all over. Does anyone know what this might come from and how I can get rid of the cause?
Thanks so much!

Check the gasket of the washing machine for mold.

Clean the rubber from the mold and rewash it if you didn’t dry it yet.
You need to clean the rubber every so often, and leave the door open after loads, so this happens less frequently.

Yup!
Usually happens during the very load that I am washing my husband’s white shirts🙈

Just like a dryer collects lint, the washing machine does collect dirt. Besides for using afresh, I literally wash the rubber and other parts with q tips.

Hate that job…
Good luck!

Hi everyone,

Back with an update.

I had a repairman come down. The marks were from years of soap residue inside the drum of the machine due to years of using too much soap. He said I would have to remove the drum and clean the inside and then put the drum back. But removing the drum is expensive and since it was an old machine we decided to replace it.

For anyone with the same issue: If none of the above are an option, you can try using the washing machine cleaning tablets and see if that helps. He recommended running 6-8 cleaning cycles in a row, with one tablet per cycle, and if that helps, continue using the cleaning tablets once a week or once in two weeks.

Per his recommendation, with my new machine, I am using a lot less soap than I used to, and running a tub clean cycle with the cleaning tablets around once per week.

Posting for anyone with a similar issue.

I too had this issue and use very little detergent and almost never fabric softener. I also clean my machine often.

Please read the detergent package. You may not realize how little is really needed. The same for the dishwasher.
