Are young families (not Sephardic) buying their first home in bklyn? Are yeshivos growing? I grew up in bklyn and haven't been back in awhile. Someone mentioned to me that ashkenaz families are not buying and yeshivos are getting noticeably smaller.

Can those in the know update me plz?

People are buying but not at the same rate as they used to. It's definitely easier to get into schools and not all of them are full for every grade. Every year one or two kids move.

Most young ppl can’t afford Bklyn any more and realise it’s so not worth it when you can get a huge, newer house, with a huge yard in a quieter, nicer setting elsewhere.

The area many of them are buying in is much cheaper than other jewish neighborhoods in Brooklyn.

Can't afford to buy in Brooklyn. A lot of our friends moved as well.

Chaim Berlin subsidizes mortgages for kollel members and rebbeim. It also offers subsidized apartments for young couples.

The apartments are not that subsidized. They're not really so cheap

They're no more expensive than apartments in Lakewood now.

Most Ashkenaz families are not buying in Brooklyn. Here and there you may find a couple who is buying , usually with a lot of assistance from family. Or as another poster mentioned, chaim berlin helps their members buy here. You also do not see any couples from outside Brooklyn moving into Brooklyn and buying (like you see in the Five towns, Lakewood etc).
And yes basically all the schools are seeing a huge decrease in enrollment.

If you don't want to go to Lakewood, where are Brooklyn people going?

Of course some people are buying , but it’s definitely true that it’s much less people. School enrollment is way down and classes are much smaller. All of this is true .

We put our house on the market a few weeks ago and BH the interest in it was huge and we had a deal within a day for full asking price. My guess is now people are away for summer so maybe you aren’t seeing buyers but it didn’t seem like the market was dead. There is some shift out of Brooklyn but it’s not this mass exodus people imagine. In each of my kids classes maybe 2 families have moved out over recent years. and schools that were less popular are feeling it, but schools that were more popular still don’t have spots (Masores and Torah vodas still full).
