Im looking for more info on voip service on a cordless or regular telephone. I have high speed internet at home and I'd like to know what's the pros and cons for voip services rather then a regular phone company. Anyone has it? And if yes which company would you recommend

I use Google voice with an obi
Hardly any issues ba"h
I use fiber optics for Internet service

I worked in VoIP for a decade. With reliable, high speed internet, no reason not to.

If power is out, it won't work even with a corded phone but you can usually set it to forward to a cell number in those cases.

Thank you, I greatly appreciate your info

How do I set it up? Do I call Google voice to set it up? Also can I import a previous number?

I had a regular land line and made the mistake of changing over when my cable provider offered it with a special rate.

I didn't think it through and didn't focus on the internet line needing the electrical AND internet connection to work versus the old fashioned land line which operates independently. For me it defeated the reason for having it since the reason I kept a landline was because it would operate in the event of an emergency - if the power was off or the internet was down for some reason.

I tried to go back to the landline the next day but the phone company said they couldn't do it - that once I had made the switch that was it and no getting a regular land line.

That's what cell phones are for...

Voice.google.com and yes you can pay to transfer a number I believe
I pay for e911 separately, it's a few dollars a year

The problem with cell phones in an emergency is that they need to be charged AND the lines get jammed if there is an emergency because they don't have the bandwidth to handle all of the calls simultaneously.
