Well, do you like stories or do you like hardcore learning? You could try novels. If you like to learn in the context of a story, try historical novels. First figure out what kind of thing draws your interest and then you can narrow it down.

Do you like fiction, non - fiction?

If non-fiction then, do you like Holocaust stories, biographies, random nice non-fiction stories?

holocaust.. I cant read... too scary for me.
biographies I like... and random books I like too... but not a 300 page book
I need to start with 150 pages so I can finish it in a timely manor.

thanks so much for your time!

These books are not specifically short books (can't think of good short ones now)

Living Legend - Biography about Rabbi Grossman who started Migdal Haemek. You could skip around.

Bamboo Cradle - Story of a Chinese baby that was found...

Incredible - a really amazing book which is the life story of Rabbi Yossi Wallis. You could skip around when your more towards the middle/end when it's individual stories (each one amazing)

Does this sound interesting to you? There's many more!

Great ideas!
Freefall
Shortchanged
come to mind.
They might be longer than 200 pages but really shouldn't be intimidating.

There are some kids' books you might enjoy. Power Plays by Yonah Klein, Ariella Schiller's Mishpacha Jr. serials.

Do you need your books to be Jewish?
I often read my DDs’ middle school book assignments because I find them lying around the house.
I just read 4 Winds which was great but long. It reminded me of Esparza Rising which was short and fabulous.
The Help was good (and not long)
The Wave
The Day the World Came to Town
I also loved bothering the American Girl books -especially the girl of the year) and the Jewish girls around the world books

I sometimes like the short story books as they are light reading, I can put the book down at any time and I don't have to keep track of a complicated plot or who characters are. Especially as I don't have much time to read and it's usually only once a week on shabbos. I can't think of specific books at the moment, but it's usually whatever the library has in when I go.
