Because of the strapping on the back to one place and the constant swaying on one position the whole night. It is my first pregnancy and I’m considering it because so many people love it.

It’s definitely controversial.

Ideal is never going to change: flat on the back in an empty crib. But if your baby is one of the many who is never going to sleep a wink in that position, then you'll need a less ideal option.

Ideal has changed many times over the decades, and I know babies who have choked because of the flat on the back position.

I’m likely going to use it for this baby iy”h. My other babies slept in a swing which is definitely worse. That was after trying every swaddle on the market. Nothing helped. At least with the snoo the baby lies flat.

Just a heads up- my kids all sleep in swings. One had reflux another ear infections. The snow didn’t work for us. It was the incline that helped.

ugh. Afaik my babies didn’t have any of that. They just refused to sleep. (Except one when they were a newborn and I was on a mediation that upset their stomach. As soon as I switched medicines their tummy was better.)

But my biggest fear with the snoo is that I’ll buy it and it just doesn’t work. I know you can rent but that’s really not cost effective.

I bought it and it didn’t work for my baby. but the person I sold it to said it’s been amazing for her baby. it’s worth renting in my opinion or buying used

It goes against biology (babies should sleep near mother) and neuroscience (lack of movement and repetitive motions isn't good for the growing brain)

There are ways to incline a mattress.

I wouldn’t cosleep in any case. I think op is asking how it compares to sleeping baby in a traditional crib.

I don’t think it makes sense to buy used. People charge too much for something that’s already out of warranty. I just saw they offer a 30 day guarantee so that may be a good answer. Or maybe it’s worth renting after all.

Op asked if it's healthy. I didn't say she should cosleep. I'm just answering the question.

Baby products are sold by marketers, not child development specialists. They're not driven by your baby's best interests but by their own wallets.

The snoo is a high ticket item appealing to more educated parents who don’t want to cosleep due to research findings, but who are struggling with babies who don’t sleep on a still surface. Karp bills himself as a child development specialist which is why the snoo is so popular.

Since current guidelines say not to cosleep I find your comment confusing. Of course the snoo manufacturers are looking to make money. But they do that by helping parents follow current guidelines while staying sane.

the 30 day guarantee is not that helpful if you want to set it up before you give birth and you don’t know when you will give birth. if you wait until after baby is born it could be helpful. where I live you can buy it used for $900 and resell it for $600-$700 when baby is done with it

Ideal is with someone watching the entire time. The closest that's actually accessible to non-billionaires is the Owlet sock.

Owlet got rid of some features though Sad I’m not sure if it’s still worth it.

I've been on a bunch of birth and parenting boards, and it seems that parents love the snoo at first, and then hate it when it's time to transition. The kids get so used to and conditioned to it so quickly, it can be a nightmare trying to transition them to a real crib.
