My son wants an MP3 player with lots of songs and jewish stories. I do not want him to have open access to amazon music or spotify.
is there a way to download their songs/stories - so that we can put them on the mp3 player?

You can illegally download from both of the above, but it's stealing.
These companies are streaming companies, and make money by requiring an active subscription for you to continue listening.
You can, however, buy this MP3 player: https://www.amazon.com/Mighty-.....ss_tl and download playlists that you choose from Amazon Music or Spotify to it.
As long as it connects to your phone once a month to refresh (and make sure you still have an active subscription) it will work with no wifi necessary.

(You can buy music on Amazon Music even without a subscription and then download it to whatever device you want. That's not stealing.)

True, I was assuming an Amazon Music subscription, but that is not necessarily what OP means.
