My 3 yr old daughter has thin hair just past her shoulders. It's the type that isn't curly but in some areas it's curls and some is straight.
Anyway, lately it started getting super knotty in the back. At this point it looks like those cheap doll's hair after a few weeks.
Is there any way to detangle it or do I need to chop it off? There is no easy way to loosen the hair.

Maybe try a good conditioner. And her hair shorter will probably help too.

Tons and tons of good, thick conditioner and a wide tooth comb. And lots of patience

This! And once it's detangled, start using conditioner and a light detangler spray daily.

Wow, I just dealt with this.
It kept getting massive tangles.
I recently snipped off the tangles. Left her hair long. It looks fine. And it’s so much better.
It’s like some hairs were very knot-prone and I cut those out and it makes such a difference!

Try the curly girl method. Her hair is probably curly but it's getting ruined by products not made for her.

I've found that sometimes it tangles at the back if they're sleeping on their backs and they're sweaty. Try a high ponytail at night (high so they aren't lying on it) and a cotton slip for the pillow.

Johnson's No More Tangles works for most people. Also braiding her hair will help alot.
