guess what? I made it as a cake and it was good! But maybe drier than as muffins. thanks. next question: can it be made with oatmeal instead or supplemented with oatmeal?

Not sure... it wold completely change the texture.

thanks, I printed it out. And the original recipe, in oatmeal is now baking, we'll see how it turns out!

I made these and they are SO good! Both my picky children and my very picky dh really liked them which says a lot!

BTW, I substituted margarine with oil (both in the batter and the topping), and shredded the apples instead of chopping them.

it was really good, but more crumbly, I tried baking it longer, and think it held better after that. also, I'll reduce the sugar next time, think I put in too much. also I combined brownulated and regular sugar(maybe that was why it crumbled more). I left out the crumb topping, but the top crusted nicely.

I just baked these with a couple of subsititutions. I used all applesauce in place of the butter and cut back on the sugar to maybe 2/3 of a cup or so. These muffins are absolutely deeelicious!! Thanks for posting this recipe!

Wow thanks for bumping this recipe!
Yesterday's batch came out super scrumptious.
I used oil & instead of the crumb topping, I drizzled chocolate syrup while they were freshly hot out of the oven.
