Actually, I just checked the LLL website to see if they had recommendations and they were unclear on this issue (basically just said not to use formula but that doesn't help you). But I was told by several different sources including a lactation consultant that if you are giving a whole bottle that you can mix, and it may be better to mix.

I phoned the tipat chalav here and they were suppose to get back to me the woman was in a meeting. my baby doesn't want to nurse and he doesn't either want my milk for some odd reason even when it is put in the bottle he takes one sip and spits it out crying. So I was wondering if I can mix the two together at least he will have some nutrition.

I gave him a mixture of the bottle and he gobbled it down so I guess he doesn't taste my milk that much in there. Also he is a big eater he is already eating 120 cc or 5 ounces of milk at each feeding and all that formula could make him into a rolly polly before his first week birthday.

maybe your milk isn't filling or he has a hard time sucking. u should speak to a lac consulton for help.
I had with my son big problems with nursing he would nurse for an hr scream inbetween and nurse an hr later then when I went for a check up 2 weeks later he lost almost a pound.

I gave him a bottle of formula after that and he gained weight and stopped screaming and slept abit better.

I spoke to someone and she can't understand it too they told me that it happens to a lot of babies. It ends up happening that they just give them formula. so I guess formula it is going to be now if I can just get the engorgement to be relieved that would be a miracle on its own.

supermom, don't give up on the nursing. Maybe the baby is not getting enough, but the more you nurse, the more the baby will learn the "technique" for getting the milk out. Giving him formula will discourage him from trying harder at the breast. There must be a reason that he's refusing to nurse, please call a lactation specialist so you don't miss this window of opportunity.

Could the problem be that you have too much milk and it's coming out too fast for him? I had that problem - I was spraying all over the place and my poor son couldn't gulp fast enough! After speaking to a lc we got it straightened out - I would "let down" onto a burp cloth and then put him on after that. But that only lasted about a month or two - then my body slowed down a bit. Keep trying! And good luck with the engorgement. That can be really painful.

yes, dont give up! speak to the "experts."
but about mixing (it's good at lleast if you're pumping until you settle the nursing issue)....when I was starting my baby on formula (10 1/2 months), I mixed my milk with it at the beginning so he'd get used to the taste. I never asked, just assumed it was okay. why not?
oh, and about pumping...just don't pump more than he's eating, b/c your body will keep producing that much (thinking the baby needs it) and then you may stay pretty engorged!
