occasionally my baby needs to get woken right when he falls asleep for his nap, say when I pick her up from daycare or taking her out of the car right when I get home from shopping.
despite her having JUST fallen asleep she just won't fall back asleep.
is this the norm? is there anything to do? I know it's mean of me but sometimes I just can't avoid waking her.
not napping isn't an option. she's just crying from tiredness.
6 months old.

She just got a quick boost of energy you need to give her some time to get tired again. Let’s say she’s only up for 1:30 hrs at a time before a nap soo wait 45 min abs then try
I hate waking baby’s from there naps it soo hard

Unfortunately yes. As I can tell from your post that you've noticed, it resets.

Can you ask the daycare to try to keep baby up until you come get him if they see he is falling asleep 5 min before pickup?

Also if you are in the car and baby fell asleep, drive around for an hour till he wakes up...

I used to live on the 4th floor of an apt building without an elevator and would stroll around downstairs if my baby fell asleep so they should stay asleep and not wake up as I bump the stroller up the stairs.
I also try to pick up my baby super early on Fridays so his nap shouldn't be cut short by early pickup.

this is life with a baby and it is so hard. my babies don’t really nap at all on any schedule or for more than 20 minutes at a time until around seven months. it’s brutal

it really is tough. oh well, it is what it is.
I asked the daycare to try to keep her up but it doesn't always work.

Yup. Even with my 10 month old. When that happens it’s a lost nap for us. With multiple kids at home and different pick-up times and errands to run he basically just gets one “crib” nap in a day and the other are like one or two 10-20 minute car naps (because there really isn’t any way to prevent him from falling asleep in the car…). Not the best schedule but it is what it is…..
