In San Diego my family stayed in the Best Western Lamplighter which was walking distance to a shul. The only other time I have done something like that was South Florida which was renting a condominium on Collins Avenue.

I have been to Newport many times and I love it, and there is a hotel down the block from the Touro Synagogue (the Viking) BUT I don’t know how reliably the shul gets a minyan in terms of every Shabbos (let alone every day). The rabbi is lovely and very responsive to emails.

Are you going with kids? St Louis is really kid friendly and affordable. Not a ton of kosher food but enough for a few days.

San Diego has Beth Jacob and nearby La Jolla has Adat Yeshurun. Google them.

Both have regular minyanim.

Beautiful weather almost all year round, Los of attractions nearby.

Here's the strategy -

Decide where you want to visit. (Travel time, flight availability, sights you have always wanted to visit, weather at this time of year, etc.)

Google "synagogues in...". If you find a shul that could work for you, (Orthodox, has a current minyan schedule on its website), look up "hotels in...". Then Google map the distance from hotel to shul. You can do the same with kosher restaurants and supermarkets.

Now Google "things to do in..." See if any can be booked on advance.

All set, have a wonderful trip!

The Two Medicine lakes (lower, middle and upper) are a series of lakes set within the mountains near Glacier National Park. I found them to be a more enjoyable experience than Glacier itself, because they are much less crowded and have an excellent campground to stay at. The hiking is also incredible, just as beautiful as Glacier, although you may need to be in good shape to complete some of the trails. Also be aware that it's grizzly country, so bringing bear spray is essential and follow all guidelines about storing food properly. In terms of staying for shabbos, contact the chabad in Kalispell which is about a 1.5 hour drive from Glacier and the lakes.
