Anyone have experience with these things and can tell me if there's a way to replace without spending 10k?

Yikes. For future, is there a way to get these insured the way people insure expensive jewelry?

Probably.... its my husband not my kid so he came into the marriage with it and I was kinda shy to ask him about things like insurance until this happened tonight. Will Def be looking into future insurance plans but wondering if anyone can help me now....?

There was a news story about 2 or 3 weeks ago on the Lakewood scoop detailing that chaveirim and police searched for a boys implant in the lake and found it. If its completely worthless once wet I'm sure they wouldn't have spent that effort finding it. Maybe reach out to the scoop and find out the deal....?
Might be a bit far fetched idea.

Are you sure it's ruined? They aren't supposed to be submerged, but that doesn't mean it's hopeless. Can you rinse it with fresh water and dry it out to see?

Is he eligible for an upgrade with insurance?
Or if he got the implant within the past 5 years, there could be a one time replacement allowance.

I'm so sorry that happened! I have a kid with two CIs and I fear losing them too.
Has he contacted his audiologist -they may have ideas?

I know someone who has a dehumidifier container for them

I suggest you join Facebook groups for people and family members of individuals with cochlear implants and ask them all your questions. If you don’t have Facebook it is important to make an account just for this.

While you try to figure it out, put it in a bag of rice, it absorbs moisture

Sorry all ended up in the hospital past week and wasn't online.
We ended up filing a claim and getting it replaced bh. He is also almost eligible for an upgrade so he won't have to replace the batteries soon iyh.
Have to decide how I feel about Facebook
