Sautee 1 bag shredded green cabbage with 1 lrg diced onion for a few hours on a low flame. Mix with cooked pasta. Add 2 Tablespoons sugar, 1 1/2 tsp salt and black pepper to taste.

Thanks. If I want to freeze for Yom Tov, do I freeze cabbage separately from noodles, or do I freeze already mixed? Also, does any shaped pasta work? What size bowties are typically used?

I freeze it already mixed together. Egg bow tie noodles freeze best, I put it straight in the oven from the freezer

I freeze separately but really you can freeze already mixed. Don't use pasta it doesn't freeze well. Only egg noodles. Any shape. Traditional recipe is made with bow ties.

1 head cabbage
Half pound egg noodles (wide)
1-2 onions
1-2 cloves of garlic
Oil or butter or plant butter
Salt
Pepper
Umami seasoning
Optional: beyond sausage brats (not Italian)
1. Cook noodles according to directions set aside.
2. Cook sausages according to directions take out of pan and slice. Save juices for veggies.
3. Sauté onions until translucent with some fat, add garlic
4. Slice up cabbage and put in big pot with veggies. Add some more fat. Lower temp a little and put lid on. Stir occasionally to cook evenly. Cook to desired doneness.
5. Add in sausage if you used it, salt, pepper, umami seasoning, and noodles (might need more fat, you’ll have to see)
6. Keep on fire until heated through.
