Op when Dh says he will help what does that mean tachlis? Go through the schedule task by task timing included…setting tables? Clearing? Serving? Letting you nap while he takes the kids to the park? Etc before committing to hosting or anything I’d sit down with him and do this and see what he is offering to do

Op, you seem like a very nice person.
I wonder if when u tell dh you aren't up to it, u say it in a way that shows that you doubt urself and ur decision, and think that maybe you can push urself and be nicer...Dh probably senses that and pushes and pouts. I wonder if you would be super firm with ur decision, saying firmly that "I know this means a lot to you, but right now, I'm just not up to it. I need a break," I wonder if he would give less pushback if he senses more confidence and decisiveness from you.
