This piqued my curiosity.

Do most people remove their shoes at their own home entrance, or vice versa?

Please vote.

Additional questions to be discussed in the comments.

Do your kids do the same?
Are guests expected to?

It's the first thing to come off even before my sheital.
I'll skip on the kids part but my husband never walks around without shoes or crocs. My guests usually keep their shoes on.

It might depend on where you live.
Snowy or wet places might be more likely than if you live in Arizona.
We dont make guests take off shoes but many do when they see us do it.
We do when we come in.
Why?
Less dirt to come in theoretically.

We know where our shoes are when we need to leave.
This last one helps in the mad morning rush.

Yes it's prob from our central Asian descent. Shoes are expected to come off by the door and slippers in the house. I don't enforce with my guests, they can do whatever they want. But my kids know no shoes in the house, especially upstairs!

I take my shoes off but immediately put slippers on. I can't stand barefoot. Neither can I stand it when my kids walk around that way.

My parents are from Uzbekistan. I was smuggled here under a fur coat when my mom was 7 months pregnant ๐Ÿ˜

I have feet issues. I need my shoes on otherwise I'm in pain. my kids often take off their shoes and it's annoying when it's time to find them... in theory I understand having kids take off shoes and having indoor shoes for the house but practically we go in and out a lot and it's just not going to happen.

One parent is Canadian so we're a shoeless house, but don't force guests to take off their shoes.

We remove shoes, including kids. Imaging what we step into in public bathrooms or on the streets. I wouldn't tell guest to take their shoes off but I really appreciate those who see the shoe rack in the doorway and take their's off.

I take off my shoes for comfort, not a house rule
But I make my kid take off shoes when climbing on my bed

I ask guests to remove their shoes, as well. I'll occasionally wear slippers in the house, but specifically won't when we have guests, so we're all barefoot (or in socks). My floors are spotless, so I don't feel it's an unreasonable ask.

I voted yes. But it's not to keep my floors clean- other family members leave their shoes on. I just hate wearing shoes, so I remove them as soon as I can.

Do people take them off just for cleanliness purposes out something else? I have always wondered.

My floors get washed almost every day but with kids around and constant spills I would never eat off of it even without shoes.

Other.

I usually take my shoes off and switch to slippers for comfort, but not if I'm going to be leaving the house again within an hour or so. My kids always take off their shoes when they come in unless I ask them to keep them on since we'll be going right back out. I don't know if it's preference or training that they take their shoes off. I'm the only one in the house who wears slippers. I do prefer that if they take their shoes off they leave them (neatly, hopefully!) near the front door so we never have to search the whole house for them. DH doesn't usually take off his shoes until the end of the day unless he gets his particularly muddy or something.

I definitely don't ask guests to take off their shoes but many kids do anyways.

Cleanliness purposes. It isn't about being able to eat off of the floors, but there's so much dirt and grossness on the streets that I don't want in my home. And I have a toddler who plays/walks/crawls on the floors. She gets really dirty when we're by people who wear shoes at home, especially if they haven't mopped recently. Hands, feet, dress...
