My kids have child health plus and we're paying cash for braces. Most insurance don't cover braces.

Very severe malformation so that chewing or other body functions is impacted.
As others have stated, it is almost impossible to get insurance to cover braces let alone a Government funded plan because while there might be a slight benefit p, the overriding reason for most people to get braces is cosmetic.
Teeth in the US are generally a marker of economic status because braces and root canals and crowns are expensive and not covered which is why you see crooked teeth and missing teeth among poorer people but very rarely in middle or upper middle class people.

My son needs braces for medical reasons. He was only 8 and needed an expander before getting the braces. He was on CHIP and was denied coverage for both.
Right before COVID our kids switched to Medicaid coverage and he was subsequently approved for all orthodontic treatment.

I have amerigroup in nj.
And they covered my childs braces surprisingly. Bh
Didn't think for a min. They would and was prepared to pay $$$.
They also covered 2 root canals for myself.
In ny they never covered anything for myself..
