But then what do you do with the old benchers. There is not a restaurant or shul or school that wants them. Shamos is not easy to get rid of either. We have a rule that you no longer bring benchers home from a simcha
(FYI, the benchers cards (custombenchers) are super easy to wipe as well)

Yes, for our last simcha we didn't print benchers, we don't appreciate them and seems we are not alone in this.
( We did provide benchers for a guests to use)

If you are flying within the US, I would just order something to be delivered to your hostess.
Wine, chocolate, flowers or a fruit platter are all nice.
If you're flying from America to Israel you can also order the same to be delivered in the city you're staying. If you need recommendations you can post here.

The great thing about these though, is that they replace all other benchers and can be wiped down so they don't get tatty and stained |
A matter of taste IMHO. Laminated items are a bit considered to be child proof like books which are laminated and can be wiped off. Just like plastic cover on the table cloth which I detest. I use real benches including zmirot. But each to his own.

These aren't laminated. They are printed on pieces of hard, glass like plastic. They are actually quite elegant.

Both lite enough to be put in a suitcase.

If you buy a gift then make sure to include an exchange voucher.
Wine and chocolate always a safe thing. |
Please DON'T bring wine, grape juice is welcome.
And if you do bring chocolate, make it parve. We won't use it if it's Eida Hacharedit chalavi.
(Just bring yourselves...)

You could bring pretty kitchen towels or oven mitts. Or those things that go under pots, those are always useful.
