I chose those too but then I checked kosherbooks.org and faraway summer had questionable reviews. So I switched to the ghost in apt 2R( not that I know if that is any better).

I read Faraway Summer and don't remember anything inappropriate.

This is the review on kosherbooks:
Orphaned Jewish girl from Lower East Side goes to visit farm family on Fresh Air Fund program. Adjusts to differences in country life and learns to make friends with girls in family despite their differences. The only elements of religion that her family has retained are not eating pork and not eating milk with meat; she continues these at the farm. Running theme of Christian family & Jewish girl getting along & realizing are not so different.

The last sentence had me a little undecided.

Same, I remember it being benign and somewhat boring but my kids liked it.

Most books aren't heimish. I haven't found any book 100% ok

Irked me that they put words like tuchis in a kids book

Faraway Summer is published by Menucha Publishers and sold in seforim stores like Eichlers and Zberman.

Based on the parent guide,

Becoming Brianna is about a bat mitzvah in a Reform temple. It actually looks like it's probably a wholesome read for a kid with a minimally religious background and I'd recommend it to my secular/culturally Jewish neighbors but not to my kids who have a BY education anyway and don't need this.

Ghost one seems to involve a dybbuk. Also looks like a pretty cute book for someone less picky than me but I don't need my kids reading about a kabbalistic concept in a sci fi format.

I've never read Becoming Brianna, so no comment. My kids have already received The Ghost in Apartment 2R in a previous selection so I previewed it. I did not give it to them to read. I seem to remember that it was a decent book but it had inappropriate parts. In the Amazon description, I read this excerpted from the book: Because I have an older brother and a set of parents (one of each relations--I only mention this because my friend Kyle has two moms and I want to be fair), that means two bedrooms for four people.

I think the main character also openly eats nonkosher and is mechalel Shabbos..

I had no issue with my kids reading Faraway Summer.

Brianna isn't sitting well with me, I think I'll pass on it.

The ghost book, I don't mind my kids reading about dybbuk, but I'm a little skeptical about the part about the parents. Hmm....

This book was first printed by Harper collins publishing and then by menucha.
I wonder if they fixed it up a little to make it better for the heimishe people?
The one on pj is from menucha

If it's good enough for Menucha, it's good enough for me.

I agree with that. I was just pointing out to the one that said it wasn’t rated so good on kosher books

Anyone else got an email about applying for a pj get together where they will reimburse up to $100? Any reason not to do it? I don't see why not.

I don't usually read their emails, so possibly got deleted it. Sounds interesting.

Any opinions on this months books?

Anyone had a chance to look this month?
Prince of Steel Pier is a KarBen book so that’s out.
Golden Dreidel makes me nervous- ‘mystical’ books that reference real people from Tanach always make me nervous.
That leaves sorry for your loss &the lemonade crime. I’m leaning towards Sorry for your Loss- my DD is older, it seems the more mature book.

I have two kids. I ordered teh Lemonade Crime because I've heard the Lemonade War is popular and this goes with it, so probably also pretty good.

The other ones didn't impress me so I'm probably just not going to order anything for my second kid. Sorry for Your Loss sounded like a maybe but I'd very carefully pre-read for what kind of "hashkafah" about death and dying it might convey, and I don't have the patience for pre-reading right now.

I took Danny's Doodles because David A. Adler's books are usually kosher. I believe he is frum.

He is. I've met some of his relatives.
