I make two course.
1. Fish, salads, egg salad (sometimes)
2. Cholent, deli roll, grilled chicken (sometimes)

Trdition is to have fish x3 on shabbos, on each Seuda.

Therefore we do first plate fish + salads

main dish : cholent + kugel and steamed veggies (orange/ green ) for good nutrition.
if company would add more meat types, but for us cholent is good

We try ONE dessert, can be apple cobbler, cookies - minimal. fruit cup also works.

Enjoy your shabbosim. what a gift.

Overeating is not.

No. Do you think if you went to any random rov’s house on Shabbos, it’s even a possibility they’d be eating dairy? There’s a reason. It’s Hassan v’ Daimler. Can’t be interpreted differently.

A prominent, elderly rebbetzin once confided in me that now that she and the rav don't have guests every week, she sometimes takes it easy and serves hot dogs for the two of them Friday night!

For those who don't serve cholent, what is your main for shabbos lunch?

It's not, but it's also not how most people picture a shabbos seuda.

We used to do courses, but then I realized I’m spending the whole meal in the kitchen and I can’t sit down with my guests (and food) for a decent amount of time. So we scrapped that and just do what we want but we don’t serve fish.

My kids don't eat dips. We do one course and it isnt huge. Shabbos lunch is cholent, a salad or just some vegetables not in a salad. Muffins or a kugel leftover from Friday night. Sometimes mini hot dogs or chicken nuggets for the kids. I make more if we have company.

What’s first course? Fish?
No way my dh is giving up eating his piece of fish.
My kids don’t touch fish but they busy themselves with challah and dips. Challah and dips is their first course.
Their second course is pickles and hot peppers.
My second course is Chulent with deli.
So what are people skipping, challah? Eating a piece of fish with the challah? Eating dips with the challah?

It's usually chicken. Sometimes beef, like meatloaf, or meatballs, or meat cooked in the crockpot. Crock-pot meaty pasta sauce isn't fancy, but everyone likes it.

When I was single, went to eat with a friend in Boro Park, where they literally had 6 courses on Shabbos day!
All same foods, but each served on separate plate, before being removed & next course came.

“Bassar v’dagim” is a quote from a zemer, not a halacha. If you looked into the halacha, the Shulchan Aruch Harav very clearly states there is no obligation to eat meat on shabbos, rather, one should increase the foods they personally like on shabbos to receive more enjoyment. If someone enjoys dairy more than meat, they should have dairy.

Thank you for this. Everyone quotes the zemer because they sing it but I never knew it was not in Shulcha Aruch.
