DH is Chaim.
He’s known as Charles. Not Charlie, mind you.
As a 5 year old he was known by the old man name Charles.

I think the original name (of hymie himmelstein fame) is Hyman. Haven’t heard that name in years.

Jaime is sure to be mispronounced though. Not enough people know that a Spanish J is really an H. They just call them Jamie.

Who cares if its hard to pronounce? Just call him Chaim. It’s a short name and a nice one- it means life! Please don’t use a nickname!

I know this nickname is typically used for a name like Amitai but what about Ami. Ditch the "ch" and use the ending?

You could go off the M instead of the CH when nicknaming. Or you could just see how things pan out naturally. I just "knew" for sure my Yehuda would be "Yehuda." Enter: Duda.

Anyone have any good nicknames for chaim?
I don’t like the “CH” aspect because it’s hard for some people to pronounce. Anyone have any nickname ideas without the “CH”?

Haimy- my husband says it too silly cuz of Haimy Himelstein LOL

You could go with Im or Immy (end of Chaim).

But I don't understand -
You want a nickname so that people who can't pronounce chet will be able to use the nickname instead of Chaim? Nicknames are usually affectionate names that family use - not the other way round. I'm imagining all the family calling him Chaim, and the doctor calling him Immy.
No need.
People who can't pronounce chet will just pronounce it as well as they can, and a nickname will just develop once he's born.
No need to make up nicknames in advance.

I don't know how old your son is, but some people end up with nicknames that are not related to their "real" name, either based on a physical characteristic (like a kid with red hair called "red" or "gingy"), a trait, a hobby, something else, or just because. You could let that evolve, or try and actively pick one.
My brother has a friend whom everyone calls "shorty" because he's so tall. In PC-land that might not fly ...
Or how about a nickname that is a derivative of your last name?
I have a friend whose maiden name is Goldfarb, and everyone - including her husband - calls her "Goldy" to this day. My friend Adina Davidowitz was called "David" for ages. Another friends' last name was Wolf, and we used to call her "Wolfgang" for fun (that didn't last, though).
Get creative ...
