(Anon because I’ve asked a few friends but I think the extensive reach of imamother will help more).
My child is almost 9 and struggling with reading. Obviously in school they started Hebrew first and they struggled. Covid did not help at all since they were at the cusp of learning when it hit.
English is also slow and my other kids at this age could read both pretty well if not fluently.
We did pay privately for a tutor in school to help. This tutor came highly recommended by the entire school board and teachers etc. it definitely helped but the reading is still slow.
I don’t think it’s dyslexia because there are other symptoms that don’t fit (eg handwriting is super neat, can say words correctly).
I want to help them because I know they’re struggling as the rest of the class surges ahead. How?
Is there a speech pathologist or dyslexia evaluator or kriah specialist that can help me - Brooklyn location. ? All 3?
I’m so lost and I want to help my kid.

Op hugs. Been there with my child. Bh already seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
Did you check it out with a behavioral optometrist? Did you try going through the board of ed? There are kriah specialist who could definitely help but I think you need a full fledge eval.
I tried so many things and felt like I've reached a dead end. Bh Bh through BOE I've gotten great setts therapist and speech therapist and hopefully dc will be fine by next year.

Ahuvie Weinberger is the most amazing kriah specialist. She is an expert at figuring out where the breakdown is with kriah difficulties and she's extremely positive and encouraging. She's in Bklyn, only does kriah, not english reading.

I used to have speech for them but the school couldn’t provide so I dropped it. I should look into it again I really should.
Poster above ^ do you have Ahuvie contact information?

Go to www.torah4children.com/evaluation for a free kriah evaluation. It only works on a desktop.
On the contact us at the bottom of the page, you can contact Rabbi Yehuda Adelist the founder of Torah for Children for more extensive help.

OP do you know what method the tutor used? Maybe you need to try a different approach. This article describes a few different ones
https://encoresupport.org/my-s.....help/
I am a former kriah tutor and so I took several kriah courses. The kiwak method is one that’s often recommended for older students.
