A kid's origami set. Other arts and crafts kits can also be good.
I second rush hour or similar games (there is one with chocolates, one with frogs, many others).
Beads and strings for jewelry making.
A mandala coloring book and gel pens or very fine markers.
A kid's science kit.

Have you seen the lego dots sets? Someone bought my dd a basic set and she loves it. You can get all sorts, from jewellery, boxes to different sets etc. They look more grown up than a basic lego set, and feel more girly.

I have seen it but it didn’t look like anything major. Maybe I’ll try it.

Also, there are lots of different versions for brain games such as rush hour. Games you can play on your own and occupies them for hours.
