Hi

I, as a parent, want to start teaching my DC age 3.5 the aleph beis at home so they can get a head start.

I want to do it in a fun and creative way.

What resources or methodology do you recommend?
Any tips of getting kids to remembering it?
Any specific children's book that you found entertaining and actually helped kids learn it?

TIA!

I bought an aleph Bais puzzle and say the sound and a word that starts with it for each letter as we put them in. As far as reading, phonetics and the sound is more important than knowing the name of each letter. You can have your child match an object or picture to the letter that it starts with. When they master that, you can do the reverse

Is there a specific reason you want to teach in advance?
I don't recommend it, unless you have concerns.
Let them learn at the regular pace at school/morah

The Alef Bais trip on the Alef Bais ship is a fun book

Alef Bais body shapes
Letter hunting
Songs
Puppets
Stories
Loose parts

The names are holy. It’s part of our mesorah.

My kids love the Ziggawat books. You don't need to teach them specifically, but the book will introduce the letters and sounds on its own

Baby 20 month. Sing alef Beis song with her frequently and bought her a wooden alef Beis puzzle a couple months back. She learned to do the puzzle and as she'd put each letter in it's place I'd tell her what letter it is. Also bought alef Beis fridge magnets that she moves around. By now she knows most letters by name. Only thing is that there's nothing for letters with dagesh to show there's a difference. I haven't found an organic way to introduce that yet.

DC loves to learn and I need ways to entertain them from the time they get home until they go to sleep.
May as well be productive.
If I'm going to read them a book, why not it be an aleph beis one, no? 🤷‍♀️

Great to expose them. Books are amazing.
I wouldn't formally pre-teach anything, though.
Only causes problems later on when they're ahead academically but not in other ways...

Yeah, it's more to recognize than know how to read...

I have a huge highlight with tons of resources and info on my IG if you're there @motheringmindset
Teach phonics sounds first so play I spy games with sounds like I spy something that starts with fff (fork)
And teach actual names of letters as per mesorah
Im not worried about kids being ahead of the class. That's a better problem to have

Why aren't they teaching Aleph Beis at school? I think most places do at age 3.5

DC is in playgroup.
I do believe they will start soon but I will like to teach and/or reinforce it once I'm trying to keep DC busy anyways...
