Basically l want to send a letter of gratitude to someone for something they did....and I feel it's more heartful than an email...
How does it work from the post office and how much can I expect it to cost
Also how do they do addresses over there ... Do they have zip codes as well ?

They have full addresses
Say 45 yirmeyahu street (apartment #)
Yerushalayim, with a number
Write under it Israel in bold letters
The stamp costs $1.40
It will take a while to get there.

How nice!

I believe it is $1.40 for a letter.

Yes zip codes, but put it above/before

Yes, we have addresses.

As for mailing the letter: You go to the post office with your letter, tell them it is going to be mailed to Israel, and they tell you how much it costs. You pay them and they mail your letter, OR you pay for stamps and you stick them on the letter and put in in a mailbox.

We have addresses.

It would be useful to find out the address of your intended recipient before you try mailing a letter.

Skip the zip code - we have them.in Israel but sometimes they are the same as zip codes in the US and your letter will be automatically sent to some random farm in Iowa instead. The address is enough.

Is sarcasm necessary? Be nice.

Zip codes aren't super necessary. When I lived in Israel, I didn't even know my zip code

Don't mean to hijack this thread but does anyone know how long it takes for letters to arrive from the US to Israel? Want to send a birthday card and want to time it so it shows up approximately on or around the recipient's birthday.
