My oil lecht don't stay lit... they go out within a few seconds of lighting...
What am I doing wrong?
How should I prepare it so that it stays lit?

Are you using extra Virgin olive oil?

If I don’t pour the oil over the wick as I’m filling the glass the same happens to me. So I learned to put in the wicks first and then pour in the oil on top

I’ve never had an issue , I use the floating wicks with the octagon (or hexagon) cork piece to hold it up.

I think the oil has gone old or rancid.

If the top of the wicks are wet or have oil on them, they will go out.
This doesn’t happen to me. I use glass cups, put a little water in the cup, then fill up with olive oil, place wicks through the rings, then gently place the wick on top of the oil. Can it be your wicks? Is anything blowing? Any vents or open window? I’ve been lighting like this for years and haven’t had the problem you have. My husband used to have this issue with his menorah. I realized that it was probably the wicks he was using. We switched to the same wicks I use for shabbos and it’s been fine.

How much oil is there? Which brand of wicks are you using and how old are they?

I use the large size of Ner Mitzvah petil tzaf (floating wick) in the large size glass cup. It has worked so well that my husband has started to use them in his Menorah, and he has not had one problem since.
I also use straight oil without any added water.
