My son's yeshiva hs has their dinner tonight. I haven't gone to one of these in years and don't know what I'm supposed to wear. There's already something very conspicuous about how I look that I cannot change, so I really want to fit in otherwise. Please advise?

Floral aline navy velvet dress from a frum store? It's the type that I wore to shul on Rosh Hashanah and simchas Torah. Would that work? Or should I go with a straight black skirt and a niceish top?

At my sons mesivta dinner (was a melava malka) most women wore some combination of skirt (either aline or pleated, solid or printed) + sweater/turtleneck + blazer/cardigan.
Some wore a knit dress, or a printed midi dress with a belted cardigan on top. No one wore a fancy shabbos dress.
But a regular mid week dinner might be more formal.
