I usually get this type of stuff in Amazing Savings but everything (OK almost everything but very almost) is so girly. Pink unicorns, jewelry, etc.

I am working with a boy on fine motor skills and following directions, and crafts are very helpful but we need some variety.

I already did:
Picture that you make by sticking little foam pieces in designated spots, same with little gems, definitely tired of this genre.
Perler beads. Went fine but tired of that too.
Picture made out of numbered stickers that you put in order. Love that we got some math skills out of that too. BTDT.
Some very simple origami - he's not yet at the level to do more than simple origami.

I don't think he'd be so interested in a project that consists only of "paint the thing" and he's over the ones that are just "stick the things on the thing." Also I have a strong preference for activities that take more than 5 minutes...

OK ready to be bombarded with creative, brilliant, affordable ideas, bring it on Very Happy

My mom gets my kids stuff from some store in Lakewood- Rina and Dina for girls and Pinny and Shimmy for boys. They have the number and color sticking stuff you mentioned, but they also have these cooler pictures where you layer the foam pieces, following the detailed directions to make a more 3-D picture. Maybe someone else can show you a link of that kind of thing. It sounds like a bit more than what you've done, but not too much. It's probably modeled after some Melissa and Doug thing or something, but I've only seen the Jewish version.

You might also want to try paper airplanes. There are books of different models. Usually much simpler and more fun than origami IMO.
