OP said her son didn’t watch the cheerleaders. I thought you were upset about her allowing him to watch the game. There are definitely kids in the school that watch sports.

No, I don’t think it’s realistic to think that no Cheder boy will watch sports once in a while, or even attend the occasional baseball game. The issue is taking a chance and considering allowing him to watch the cheerleading, which is a line that should not be crossed by a boy in a Lakewood school.

So you’re upset that I asked here what I should do? Judaism allows and encourages all questions.
I wanted to know if by suggesting my son not look, I would be causing him to be more interested in it, or doing harm in any other way. The consensus from many seemingly experienced mothers here was that it wouldn’t and I should encourage him to not look.
I can’t believe you’re upset that I asked a question. That is just anti-everything that true Torah stands for.

Of course questions are encouraged, but in the interest of accuracy I’ll quote your post and the question that you actually asked:
“Is it ok for boys (Lakewood type Yeshiva affiliated) to watch the cheerleaders at the halftime show?”
Different question different response.

Luckily I was able to clarify that I don’t feel it’s tznius and therefore was wondering what people do. I know for a fact many Yeshiva boys and their fathers watch sports.

But even if I didn’t clarify- that fact that I asked shows that I’m aware that it is potentially a problem and I am looking for a solution.

If I didn’t think it was a problem I wouldn’t have started this thread.

I guess it got lost in translation. It’s sounds like you meant ask: “I’m kind of stuck. My Rav told me the right thing to do is to go to the family party, and I know the sports game they are watching is not the end of the world if my son sees it. Plenty of other boys do. But of course I can’t let him see the halftime show. How do I steer him away from there without getting him curious?”

Leave him alone. Super Bowl halftime show is a whole production, but a regular football game will only show snippets of a few cheerleader dances here and there. If this is completely throwing you for a loop, then maybe he shouldn’t be watching TV at all.

The families that watch sports generally aren’t concerned about seeing a few dances, otherwise they wouldn’t be watching any TV. There’s nothing that’s 100 percent clean.

To answer your question directly.

Me and dh don’t have or watch tv but our extended family does and we were advised not to ask them to shut it when we come.

There was some sort of halftime show with a few male singers and the cheerleaders dancing in the background. It went on for 5 or 10 minutes.

So I’m not sure why are you asking this here to a group that has a wide range of sensibilities. I don’t think it’s a problem at all, and some will think it’s one of the 3 major sins. If it bothers you then tell him to leave. If you feel it’s a Halachik question then ask your Rav.

Lol this is 100% not true and there are already many people on this thread who have responded otherwise.
