Can anyone who is on WIC in NY help me figure out how much the max is per item that WIC pays? I am trying to help someone shop for WIC OOT... I saw online that it's a card now and not checks (the checks used to say how much the max was).
TIA!

As much as it costs.
It just needs to be companies and items that are wic approved.
You shop as usual, checkout as usual, and swipe the wic card before paying for the rest of your order.

so if I buy cheese that costs $3 or $15, it's covered as long as it's on the approved list?

Correct. The only thing that's a dollar amount is fruits and vegetables. Everything else is a size like 36 oz. of cereal, 16 oz. of bread etc...

For me it's a lot of money. I have 2 ppl on it (4 year old and me). It's a lot of milk, a few cereal boxes, 3 packs of cheese, money for fruits and veg, and some more. I would say a few hundred a month

WIC in NY:
currently giving for child age 1-5:
16 oz cheese
1 lg dz eggs
36 oz cereal (so 2x18 oz or 3x 12 oz)
1 beans/Peanut butter (1 jar of PB OR 1 bag of dried beans OR 4 cans canned beans)
32 oz of bread or rice
$25 fruit / vegetables (canned / frozen / fresh)
32 oz yogurt
3 gal milk
2x 64 oz juice
items need to be on their approved list
prices go up and down and there's some choice in the items. Rough estimate, $98
[last time I calculated, it was $50.]
This is for a child age 1-5
Pregnant / postpartum women get more.
Infants: get formula if they need (specific brands). Baby jars and baby cereal at 6-12 months.
