My ds 7 has always been shy and quiet but I was never too concerned since he always had a few friends that he stuck with and he seemed OK. Recently though, I'm noticing that it's becoming a real struggle for him to make friends and socialize with the other boys. I believe that a huge part is his low self esteem and lack of confidence in himself. He is absolutely terrified to initiate anything with other boys. On top of that he also suffers from anxiety.
I am desperately trying to figure out how to help him but I'm at a loss. What kind of therapy should I be looking for and does anyone have anyone specific they can recommend?

I don’t have anyone specific, but wanted to ask if you’ve had his language skills eval’d by a speech therapist. Speaking from experience as another mother of a child with anxiety who also needed help with social skills…speech therapy (working on social/communication skills, pragmatics, expressive language etc.) was the missing piece to the puzzle and helps make talk therapy more effective. If there’s a language issue that isn’t being addressed with speech therapy, talk therapy just won’t work as well.

Does he have experience with working with kids and helping them through social anxiety?
