I’m confused. You don’t need any ID to travel between states. Unless you’re not in the US?

Are you flying to a different state? I believe the baby needs a birth certificate that matches your ID as mom.

Under 18 no ID is needed. I traveled with teens and TSA asked them for their birthdate. Nothing else.

I’ve been asked for copies of their birth certificate. Could be it was closer to when they were 2 to make sure they could still have a free seat.

You can use it to drive over the border with Canada or Mexico.

Yes you can. I can send you a photo of my passport card, it says on it what it can be used for. US domestic, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Bermuda. (By car or ship.)

As stated earlier, some airlines may ask for proof of age as a baby gets closer to 2 to verify that s/he doesn't need a seat. Some airlines may also ask for newborns since they may not allow a baby to fly UNDER a certain age. Some have no restriction but some could be 3 days or 14 or anything else. Each is different.
Also, there are a number of non-US destinations you can go without a passport, even as an adult, depending on how you are getting there and where you are coming from.
And Real-ID: implementation has been pushed off again!
Traveling Without a Passport
Real ID-ASAP! Not Anymore!

If you are under court supervision then you need your parole officer or court appointee to sign off on a trip out-of-state. Otherwise, you don't need a passport unless you are taking an airplane. If you are flying, call your air carrier for details. No matter what, bring your drivers license and an additional picture ID. Consider bringing a doctors note that you are the birth parents of your baby, and there is no custody dispute or issues. If you have Covid immunization and booster documents, bring them too. Have fun!
