Hi,
My son is 18 months old and I notice him pulling at his eyelashes. My doctor says its just a bad habit and I should distract him and not make a big deal. Its too young for him to have Trichotillomania she said. Is anyone familiar? Thanks

can you tell him a story about a boy who always pulled out his eye lashes until there were none left..... and how sad he was and cried to sleep each night. ....... then an angel came down and gave him one wish=== to which the kid quickly responded- to return all my beautiful eye lashes...... which he did get back. but from that day on the little boy NEVER pulled another eye lash out.
(hope this makes sense, I'm so tired I feel drugged!!!! am about to go to bed)

Queen, the story itself makes sense but not to an 18 month old, I doubt he will understand that.
Ari's Mommy, I wish I had some advice for you..
maybe try to give him a little treat every time he dosent do it for a set amount of time.

Specialists consider there to be 2 forms of trichotillomania--one is the preschool form, common in toddlers and preschoolers logically enough. This is not considered a manifestation of obsessive-compulsive disorder usually, but is indeed more of a habit without true pathology. In most cases it disappears by about age 4 I understand.
Sorry I can't help more but our experience is with the "older form" here in our family. Our dd (almost bas mitzvah now) has a little hair right now but has at most times since she was about 7 been completely bald, with no eyebrows or eyelashes
