You dont need to use egg wash. It doesnt change the taste, just the apperance.

I like the idea of brushing or spraying oil. Then sesame seeds. I'm sure it'll come out great.

I brush with water and then sprinkle sesame/poppy seeds. It doesn't get that nice glossy appearance but it looks fine and the taste is unaffected.
