I got a gift certificate for a mani/pedi for Chanukah and I never do this. I decided to treat my daughter instead. How much do I tip? 5 Towns area

I'm not from your area, but I always tip at least 20%, more if I was happy with the service.
Manicurists make most of their income in tips, and those extra few dollars can mean a lot.
You should tip the same amount whether you pay yourself, or use a gift card.

Ok, I feel better now. They only charged $16 for my daughter and I tipped $4.
Thanks everyone!

It was for a child, so maybe they charged less because all they really did was a drop of filing and polish.

The same sum you'd tip if you were paying cash. The fact that you're using a gift card is of no significance to the manicurist.
