What are easy and reasonable additions to your kitchen, and very worthwhile modern gadgets, that make your kitchen easier to work in, updated, and/or nicer looking, that the average person may not think of, but your decorator/kitchen designer did.

Are you starting from scratch, renovating or just minor updates?

Starting from scratch. Every decorator has their own amazing ideas, so Id like to hear from others.

Not from my decorator but… workstation sink! As many pullout drawers as you can afford. Thin pull out spice rack and obviously narrow full cabinet for broom etc. I have a shelf above it which is perfect for cookie tins etc. Also LOVE not having those tiny garbage cans everyone has in their islands. I have a large one instead (on wheels that I bought separately) and the toe kick is removed from that cabinet so it can easily wheel in and out.

That I knew on my own! Didn't need a designer to tell me.

What about placement of outlets all over kitchen island, hiding them? and any original place for dish drying rack?

my outlets (and some of the light switches too) are all hidden (on the underside of the wall cabinets) EXCEPT for the ones on the island which are on the sides and are noticeable. I also bought the outlets that have usb charging ports in them (in addition to the regular plugs) and not needing charger boxes anymore is very convenient. we only redid our kitchen but loved the outlets so much that we switched out some all over our house (for the ones with the usb ports)

I just finished my kitchen renovation. Here are some of the extras we did that I think are really great.
Filtered & instant hot water faucet in one of the sinks. So no pump pot or kettle & not shlepping & storing bottled water.
Built in drawer organizers.
Under cabinet lighting & hidden outlets under the cabinets.
2 dishwashers
Big island with seating.
Pot filler is quite convenient & looks great.
3 sinks 2 of them oversized for meat & dairy. 3rd for pareve.
Vertical storage over the oven for pans & I stopped using disposable & got real pans.
Sponge holders in the cabinet doors under the sinks.
Rollout towel rocks under sinks for dish towels.
Most of the lowers we did drawers.
2 garbage can drawers.
Hidden paper towel holder in a dead corner.
Lots of lighting.

Roll out garbage right under work area. Love that!

Leave a long enough counter for area to work. Mine got chopped up with sink, counter, sink, stove, counter. Don’t have one large work are.

Lift for Bosch machine and food processor. I love love mine. Or if you have the space an appliance garage, under and over the cabinet LED, lots of spot lights, narrow cabinet for trays, hotplate etc, filtered cold water faucet, outlets hidden under the cabinets, pot filler, (spice rollout cabinet- I don't have it because I didn't know it exists, guaranteed I'd have it if I'd know about it; Google it)
