Post one recipe per post! <10 ingredients, <$10 for 2 adults and 3 kids. Salt, water, and oil for saute don't count for either.

Example:

Put up water for rice

Saute 1 onion, add a lb of mixed grind meat and brown most of the way

Put rice in pot with salt

Pour in a few tbsp duck sauce, teriyaki sauce, and some spices.

Mix tbsp cornstarch and half cup water, add to meat, and simmer until rice is ready.

Add frozen veg if your kids will eat. If they like onions, add more.

$7-8

Sweet potato breakfast burritos:

Cube sweet potatoes, toss with oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika, and roast at 400 until done.

Scramble a few eggs.

Place some sweet potatoes, eggs, black beans, salsa, and shredded cheese on a flour tortilla and roll up burrito style. Put seam side down on baking sheet and bake in oven for 5-10 minutes until warmed through and cheese is melted.

Mixed grind is 4.79-5.19 a lb in moishas on sale fairly often.

Was wondering that about wraps... So expensive lately. I see recipes with wraps all the time and skip bec too expensive for a side dish.

1 lb of ground beef
But is that enough beef
It’s 1lb raw which shrinks when it’s cooked
At $7 it’s not lean

Maybe if you make a meatloaf and add some fillers.
Ground beef
Grated zucchini
Grated onion
Leftover challah no crust mashed into water
Eggs
Salt and Pepper to taste
Mix. Mold. Bake.

Glaze
Ketchup
Mustard
Sugar
Smear on top of meatloaf and it back into oven so glaze can set

-OR-

Beefaroni - can stretch ground beef
Cook pasta according to package instructions
Sautée onion, garlic, peppers, tomato sauce
Let it come to a simmer and simmer a while to take away the can taste of the tomato sauce
Add ground beef and some water and cook chopping up the beef.
When meat is ready mix into pasta
Serve with salad or slices of raw veggies, tomato, cucumber, pepper, onion
You could make garlic toast to accompany

Mixed grind is cheaper, healthier, and more flavorful. It's not enough if your kids are big.

A pack of wraps is about $4 but you might need 1 1/2 packages for that family size. In which case it's $6. If you don't keep pas yisrael you can buy flour tortillas for $2.50

Cheese latkes and potatoes or canned corn. You can feed a lot of people for under $10.

Chicken chow mein using chicken from your chicken soup - sautee onion, peppers, add shredded cooked chicken and salt, sugar, soy sauce, serve with rice.

Delicious tuna salad with canned corn, really serves a lot of people- grate/grind two carrots, two celery, one large onion, 4 cans tuna and 4 hard boiled eggs. Add mayonnaise to taste, serve on bread.

Chicken wings can be gotten cheaper in some stores if you like that.

Flounder fillet is $4.79 for 16 oz at Moishas

Breaded flounder
2 packs of flounder (about 8 pieces)
2 TBSP Mayo
Salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder any spices you like
Toasted leftover bread made into bread crumbs and season with dry herbs or any breading you may have in the pantry

Pre-heat oven to 450
Smear the mayo and spices on the fish
Coat with breading
Place fish on a cookie sheet
Spray with oil on both sides
Bake until crispy about 20 minutes

Serve with rice and peas and carrots

Fish - $9.58
Rice - $1 for 1 lb at Target I’m sure other places have it just as cheap
Peas & Carrots $1.69 at Moishas could be cheaper somewhere else
$12.27- pretty close

Evergreen in Lakewood sells wings for $0.69 if you buy at least 5lb

Wings about $5.00
Jam about $3.29

two cups of rice, I don't know what the price of rice is now because I get it from surplus so I had not paid for it in a while.

Gefilte fish in veggies and tomato sauce -

If you get the gefilte fish rolls on sale (I've seen them for $4) sautee onion and peppers, add tomato sauce, water, salt and sugar, slice two rolls of gefilte fish and submerge in sauce. Cook. Serve with macaroni or rice.

With the peppers it's a little over $10.

I make the Dinner Done lentil soup a lot and it's a meal in a bowl. Really good. I usually serve warmed pita alonside it.

Serves 4

2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp coriander
1 tsp kosher salt
4 cups chicken stock (I use chicken soup mix and water)
1 cup red lentils
2 carrots, peeled and diced

Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; saute until soft, 5-7 minutes. Add tomato paste, cumin, parsley, coriander, and 1 teaspoon salt; cook for 1 minute.

Add stock, lentils, and carrots; bring to a boil. Lower heat; simmer for 30 minutes. Add additional salt to taste.

Canned salmon is fairly cheap
You can make salmon patties. If you have any leftover veggies you can mix it in, especially those that have seen better days

Canned salmon 2 cans $8
Buns - Rhodes frozen 36 rolls - $5. So for 10rolls approximately $1.50
Pickles jar $2.50
Tomato sliced $0.50ea not sure since I never bought just 1
Onion sliced $0.50 ea not sure since I never bought just 1
Coleslaw Dole bag about $2.50

Ok this is about $15 but you may have things in the freezer or pantry that can lower the cost. You may have pickles, tomato, onion, rolls
And this doesn’t include the eggs needed to bind the patties together. Eggs are too expensive.

This can be simple or complicated based on preferences and reheats great, possibly even better the next day:

Dark chicken lo mein
1 lb dark chicken, grilled/broiled/baked with salt and pepper and then cut into small strips (5.99 in moishas lately often)
1 lb pasta lo mein style or sesame noodles
(For example with 2 tbsp sesame oil+1/4 cup soy sauce+1/4 cup honey)
Your fave veg (opt)

You can even do it in one pot loads of simple recipes for that...

$8+
