I use wipes
There is an opinion that regular wipes are fine and I rely on it.
When I had my first baby I was so overwhelmed that I just didn’t register this rule. I refused to believe that on top of all the trouble with shabbes and a baby you are not allowed wet wipes.
I don’t feel bad |
Do you also refuse to believe other halachos that are too hard to do in your opinion?

So you’re agreeing with not needing to ask a shaila?
Great

No, she’s saying that she is relying on the fact that there ARE those who allow wipes to be used. She’s not saying it’s too hard so she just does whatever she wants. She is relying on the fact that there are perfectly valid opinions which allow wipes to be used.

I was brought uo not using wipes. Ever.
I was very surprised aftsr I had my second baby to see so many people using.
I never asked but it filtered down to me and I began using wipes every shabbos, was so much easier for me.
I did feel a bit guilty but I just couldnt imagine having it so much harder on shabnos and yom tov not being able to use.
Fast forward to about a year and a half ago, my husband went to a very in depth shiur and came home and told me what he heard, that no wipes should be used.
I couldnt handle it and tuned it out.
Came yom Kippur time and bh I took it on for then, and I try to keep it up each shabbos.
Its not easy at all and sometimes I really struggled.
Not just for changing babies, for other areas aswel and cleaning faces etc.
But it does get easier bh.
And now I rarely think about it.
I use baby lotion or oil, and tissues.
Its not perfect and its not the same, but I hope Im getting a lot of schar for it.

This thread is not about amother Viola and how she handles dirty diapers.
Why does anyone have to judge me for something that’s between me, my baby and HaShem.

If I know that there is no flipping way (excuse me) that I am even remotely ready/able to take on something that valid halachic opinions hold isn’t required—no, I am not asking a shaila about it.
If it’s something I may not be happy about but can push myself do follow the more machmir position, I generally do ask a shaila.
But I’d rather not ask knowing that there’s a good chance I wouldn’t be able to follow the possible psak.

I know someone who asked Rav Dovid Feinstein if wipes are allowed on Shabbos and he said why not.
I know some that are very knowledgeable in Halacha that hold you should make the wipes dripping wet and that way you aren't squeezing the liquid actually drips onto the baby and that the drier wipes are a problem.

That’s not what I said. This thread is about who uses or doesn’t use wipes on shabbos. I agree 100% that no one should be judged, and I said as much.

Is it better to rely on a halachic opinion that might be different than what your rav would hold, or is it better to ask a shaila, be given a psak, and then not follow that psak? I was always taught that it’s best to learn the halachos and ask shailos when needed, but also not to ask a shaila if you aren’t ready to follow any psak given.
