Ever heard of Shalom Mordechai Rubashkin?
I don't think you want to move hundreds of families to Iowa.

Even if you could educate a large family for free?

What does one have to do with the other? Or were those two separate thoughts?

I know a frum family that lived in Boise but I’m not really sure what infrastructure was there if any. (the father and most sons wear black hat, one son in the Mir now…).
If we can start communities in Las Vegas and Denver I don’t see why not Idaho which has super LCOL

Boise is in Idaho, OP was asking about Iowa.
I know someone who lives in Iowa, don’t know how big (if at all) the community is.

That article was confusing. Was it $7k per child or $7k per family?

How is this different than what Ohio offers?
And people are not moving there in droves even with frum infrastructure in place....
I think it's great that more states are offering this option but I doubt people are going to move from the east coast to a random town in middle of nowhere for it.

It must be per student.

My grandfather in his 80's grew up in Souix City
As he says - " they jews all left Iowa for california"
The problem with fly over states like Iowa is that there aren't lots of jobs. Phoneix has a strong growing economy, I don't think Des Moines or Souix city does.
Maybe if a big yeshiva would move there and encourage and incentivize talmidim to move there and build something up it would be feasible, but I think focusing on bringing these benefits to red states where there is already a growing frum presence and growing economic opportunities(Arizona, Texas, Florida, Tenessee) makes more sense.

10 years ago I lived in postville for four months when we moved from Israel (my husband’s first job). I loved the quiet but my husband couldn’t handle the emptiness. The closest community was Minneapolis about 2.5-3 hours away and Chicago 4-5 hours away. There’s zero infrastructure. It’s very hard to do everything from scratch. For example: No such thing as challah in the kosher store. The school was very small. I had a friend there that her daughter didn’t have a class so she joined the class under her. But again, this was 10 years ago, it is possible that things have changed at this point.
