So what exactly is tart cherry juice? Just the juice of cherries?

It’s the juice of sour cherries, not the same as the sweet cherries we eat in summer. It actually contains natural melatonin.

Tart cherry juice is a safe juice you can give your kids that is scientifically proven to raise their melatonin levels!

I’m surprised this isn’t widely known, consider this a PSA! Feel free to read the studies and you will see how effective it has been proven to be. It is also totally natural with no side effects. You may want to dilute or sweeten for taste, I’ve never tasted it so I’m not sure how concentrated or tart it is.

Link to OU tart cherry juice:
https://www.amazon.com/Dynamic.....ss_tl

Study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22038497/

“Results: Total melatonin content was significantly elevated (P < 0.05) in the cherry juice group, whilst no differences were shown between baseline and placebo trials. There were significant increases in time in bed, total sleep time and sleep efficiency total (P < 0.05) with cherry juice supplementation. Although there was no difference in timing of the melatonin circardian rhythm, there was a trend to a higher mesor and amplitude.

Conclusions: These data suggest that consumption of a tart cherry juice concentrate provides an increase in exogenous melatonin that is beneficial in improving sleep duration and quality in healthy men and women and might be of benefit in managing disturbed sleep.”

I give my 6 yr old son a probiotic and told him its like melatonin and will help him fall asleep. He asks for it every night to help him sleep and works like a charm. And he gets to take his probiotic daily.

Just bought it. How much do I give and how soon to bedtime? What dosage for what age? Thank you! Really hoping it'll work!

Just so you know we tried every suggestion in this thread including the tart cherry juice and then some, and the only thing that worked was straight up melatonin. At that age I gave 1/6th of a mg.

Yes I also tried everything but I so don't want to give him melatonin. Do you give it every day?

Yes, every day for the past 5 years or so. I held off for a long time but it was a relief for both of us when she started sleeping again. We’ve done a lot of other interventions trying to heal the nervous system and have made many gains but haven’t been able to touch the insomnia yet. When we skip a night, she is up for 2-3-4 hours.

All that said, I’m not really opposed to melatonin. It has a lot of health benefits and I know people taking mega doses for autoimmune diseases and such. It’s a very potent anti oxidant.

How do you divide the mg into a 6th? The best I could do was 1/3.

Cut it In half, and then each half into 3 crumbs. Alternately, you could try a liquid it might be easier to titrate

I was able to divide it in 1/4. Maybe a 1/6 I would feel more comfortable giving daily for a few weeks only. The problem is that my son has a hard time falling asleep, he usually doesn't fall asleep before 9:30-10 and it's not like he's tired during the day or anything. Just seems like he needs less sleep. But I need more sleep! It's been really tough
