um. it was very very successful 30 years ago. So dont say NEVER.
it was the up and coming place, so popular, and not cheap.
in my childhood it was the place to go, fully booked all summer. The bedrooms were comfortable but never fancy, the food was great, we loved the grounds and the convenience of the back gate leading to the beach.
it was the best place to go with my grandparents!

My grand parents have been going for years too aswel.
My brother who has special needs used to go too and he always had an amazing time esp purim with all the concerts.
Every pesach and sukkos and they loved it.

It wasnt 5 star but they realy enjoyed it.
Purim too.

Lease? The Chontow's had sold it as freehold to a group of 3 /4 people.

True. But not during the week in the winter months (besides for the winter holidays and shabbosim)
I was there several times in the winter, midweek and it was so so empty. I was told that the money doesn't even cover the heating costs running for the entire building when only 15 -20 people are there.
They also told me that during the winter they are literally running at a loss.

I never heard of people going randomly throughout the year.
Only yomtov or holidays.

The adverts said you can hire out the whole hotel.

It's a frum crowd. Majority are over aged 60. There are ppl from GG, Hendon, Edgware, Manchester , Stamford Hil etc.
Ver very few young families.

However, for this year they have brought in Rabbi Yoni and Rebbetzen Esther Hamilton to lead, plus give shiurim
They are also having a children's club for tne very first time.
It appears that they are trying to attract families/ younger crowd.
They are also offering musical entertainment on Chol Hamoed.
