Our new electric oven is GE cafe series. It has steam clean and self clean. Is self clean safe for oven (I thought I heard somewhere it wasn’t)? Is steam clean enough to kasher for Pesach?
Thanks

Our gas ovens have steam clean and self clean. Also GE. Steam clean is not for a halachic clean. Self clean should be done for a couple hours, not for the full 4 hours or whatever.

Thank you. Also - did you leave racks in?

The roll away rack cant be self cleaned. It will break. Just the one that it’s a single rack. Hope that makes sense. We have the electric one and do the self clean (not steam) for a few hours.

I did it and my glass broke. I don't self clean since then. I just wash it out and burn it out on 550 for 2-3 hours.
I have the GE Profile.

All repairman say that self clean is terrible for the oven.

I did leave the racks in. After they cooled, the movement was really stiff, especially on the rolling rack. The next day I was ready to wipe them with vegetable oil but the racks were fine again. I oiled them anyway.

Many ovens warn to not self-clean more than twice a year.
