How do you do it? After Shabbos, all that's left is those little silver circles that were attached to the wick. They are stuck to the bottom of the Neronim with wax. I've tried a bunch of different things to pry them off. Anyone have a good trick?

We use a flat head screwdriver to pop them out- with practice you learn the spot to hit it. Or you can melt with a bit of hot water from the urn

I have a silver tzinder (lighter) that is used to light the candles. It holds a thin candle and the opening on top is the perfect size to pry off those silver discs.

I always put a droplet of oil in the bottom before shabbos, it helps it slide right off after shabbos.
(or actually dh does when he prepares the licht...)

We used to use pliers. The trick is to pinch and turn.

I use a spoon. I'd be nervous to use anything sharp (knife, screwdriver) because if you scratch the glass it could compromise the safety. I've never had difficulty with a spoon but before I realized how not difficult it was, I used to put a little water in before lighting because that's how I'd seen it done, and you end up with a little disc of wax that pops right out together with the metal. It's a little cleaner but I didn't feel it made enough of a difference to bother with an extra step every week, now I just clean the slight wax buildup with hot water once in a month or two.

Do not put it in the dishwasher. Any drop of leftover wax, even if you can see it, will melt from the dishwasher hot water and harden in your pipes and clog them.

I was told this by the repairman.

I put in a drop of hot water from my urn. It comes right off. Otherwise it’s impossible.

I have a long safety lighter. I turn on the flame inside the cup and the wax melts and slides right out, along with the metal disc. But I like what another poster suggested with using oil. I have to try that!

Be aware this can be a sensitive topic. My grandfather obm once had a heart attack while arguing with my grandmother over how to remove wax from a lachter! (He recovered; that was not how he died.)
