OP, are you chassidish? Cuz the names you mentioned as modern are not very popular by chassidim. Is that what you meant by 'modern'? Maybe tell us from which community you are so we can help you better.

shavuos girls names like Rus, Naomi, batsheva (dovids wife) are all too modern

What kind of classic random name would you give? Tanach preferred (cannot do sara, rivka, leah) - I'm not giving a Yiddish name if I don't have to.

It could be a boy too! (Can't do dovid) but it's girls names I'm more stumped on

Sorry OP.

Don't understand what community you are from.

Please clarify.

Because those three names you mentioned (Batsheva, Na’ami and Rus) are the furthest from ‘modern’ in ANY very rw yeshivish circle.

Rav Chaim Kanievsky was married to a Batsheva and named his daughter Rus… I feel like if it’s good enough for him it is probably not too modern.

If Noami, Rus and Batsheva are all considered modern then these are the only names I'd feel confident with not being modern!

I am also due right after Shavuos IyH, with a boy. It's my fourth boy and we don't have anyone in mind to name him after. Hoping to name him Yishai Netanel. (Yishai for shavuos, Netanel feels related to matan torah but also gratefulness for this precious gift).

They're not too modern as in not frum enough, I just don't like them because they've become popular in more modern communities. Naomi/ nomi or batsheva / bassheva becomes like an awkward pronunciation thing too.

As someone who identifies as MO this is hurtful on so many levels.
