How would you make this dress tznius? I would've put a white ribbed shell under but now I'm not sure.

Should I not bother purchasing it?

Love the dress too.

I agree as I think she’ll has a specific meaning as I think of it as a tight polyester thin top.

Depending on the garment many people wear layered clothing. Sun dresses with spaghetti straps are very often worn with t-shirts by non frum women. They don’t generally wear them with tight undershirts though

Shells have come a loooong way. When I think shell I don't think of a plasticy polyester top. Shells are cotton now, or modal, and come in all fits, including cute ribbed fabrics.

No shell underneath cap or short sleeve dresses.
I think this jumper is adorable with a t-shirt/shell . Wear it and enjoy.

Just wondering who sets these rules, ie. shell with sleeveless-in, shell with short sleeves-out?

I think people have it backward. Shells aren’t out. Layering up on short sleeves that are meant to be short, are out.

For example: something like this would be worn with a shell 5 years ago, now it is no longer considered very fashionable. https://www.madewell.com/image.....1,5,0

This is true.
But some sleeveless dresses are made to fit close against the body and just don't look right with a shell or top underneath. They end up looking too fussy or frumpy or just off.

This dress may or may not, you'd have to try it on with a shell to know for sure.

This is more basic

Throwing this one in as a great summer dress that would be comfortable and not need any modification. Anthropologie has a lot of maxi and midi dresses that are very covering if you like a somewhat boho look Very Happy

I think the top one looks shlumpy and would look much better with a tighter shell
