Size probably depends on the child's height. There's probably a chart to reference online

14" is most popular for that age though it goes by height and not age so its best to try it.

Of course training wheels. If he wants to learn how to ride one without them you’ll take it off…. 14” sounds like the right size.

NO training wheels! The only way to learn is [b]without training wheels. A five year old learns very fast, probably within days, if you dont put training whels. If he has training wheels, he^ll be riding with them for weeks or months!
Bike size depends on your childs height, 14" or 16".

We are very into balance bikes instead of training wheels.
As for size, depends on your kid - it also isn't about overall height, but rather inseam (height from the floor to where he sits).
We found this website very helpful: https://www.twowheelingtots.com/

no training wheels, 12-14in. probably easier to learn on a 12in and then switch to a 14 once he got the hang of it

I would go with 16 inch unless he is short. My 7-year-old has a 16 inch and my 5 year old has a 14 inch and I'm killing myself that I didn't just buy two 16 inches. I can see he will outgrow it really soon and he is not tall by any means.
