I remember a while ago last year I believe there was a thread about a free air conditioner . (I think someone said they are bolling at home and can't afford one and someone said the government provides... )
Can someone post that thread?

I don't know the thread, but there is a government program, at least in NYC. It's through heap. You can Google it & apply online.

The program I'm talking about isn't for split units as that thread describes, just fyi. It's for a regular ac, like a window unit.

OP, I got an AC through heap, but if u want it for the summer you should start the process now. I applied in beg of June and got it end of August. Hopefully there are less people doing it this year so it could get to u quicker.

Following, I'm not up for installing split units but we really need window units... the ones we have got mold inside and it doesn't seem fixable

I beleive correctly the person couldn't afford an ac and there were govt programs who offered a free one. (Window unit) am I mistaken ?

Yes. There is a program in NYC that can get you a free AC window/wall unit + installation.
