I bought my 18 month old daughter adorable adidas sneakers- the style with two Velcro straps. She only recently started walking and people have been telling me that because it’s a stiffer sneaker with no high support and no arch it’s really bad for her feet. But she seems to walk fine in them (tho prefers the other shoes that were fitted in a Jewish store). Am I terrible for getting her and putting her on these sneakers? I see so many toddlers wearing them and they all seem just fine!

Bump! Can any PTs or experienced parents weigh in?

Toddler shoes should be flexible, not stiff. Otherwise their feet may not develop properly, leading to foot issues when they get older. Other toddlers wearing these shoes doesn’t prove anything because you wouldn’t see the effects of the shoes for a few years.

I am an OT. It’s definitely better to wear less stiff bendable shoes if she just started walking (idk about adidas but if ppl are saying they’re stiff I would also get a different pair and alternate. See kai run is good)
